Surprisingly... Mediocre.

Strengths: Good bass for 2.0 (without a subwoofer). Good looks.

Weakness: Disappointing overall sound quality. No bass/treble controls. No on/off switch.

I have purchased Bose Companion 2 Series II (2.0) speakers to replace my almost 10 years old Altec Lansing ACS295 (2.1). My first reaction when I hooked up the speakers was: "there must be something wrong with my cabling, these sound mediocre, at best." Unfortunately, hours of testing with different cabling, different speaker positions, different compressed and uncompressed sound media, different software and hardware music players as well as equalizers, failed to produce sound at least equivalent to the good old Altec Lansing ACS295. Bose Companion 2 Series II sound muffled, there is way too much bass and way too little treble. However, the 3D sound circuitry is indeed a nice touch. Since these speakers enjoy so many good reviews compared to how disappointing they turn out, I suspect the following: if you replace some kind of $10 bundled PC speakers with Bose, you will be, of course, very pleasantly surprised. Yet, if you already own premium PC speakers and you are looking to actually improve sound quality, you will be disappointed, as Companion 2 Series II fail to live up to such high-expectations marketing as Bose's "your eyes may not believe your ears".

Perfect Speakers!

Strengths: Sound Quality, Design and Color.

Weakness: No Bass or Treble Controls. No Power Button.

I got these speakers for use with my PC. The clarity of sound is great with a little adjusting of the EQ. Quick, easy setup. They can also be used with my TV as well which is a plus. Highly recommended if your looking for something simple.

Great Sound from a little guy

Strengths: Bose sound, Good design, impressive sound. Compatible to PC and iPod etc.

Weakness: You cannot turn them off. No bass/treble controls.

The Bose Companion 2 speakers give new voice to my computer desktop. Odds are, your computer is a primary source of entertainment. So why rely on standard computer speakers with so much rich content at your fingertips? Companion 2 speakers has high potential with powerful, full-range sound for CDs, DVDs, MP3s, streaming videos, games and more.

Overall, $99 was a bit much for these speakers. But, for a two-speaker solution these are not bad. I think I made right choice.

Great Bose Quality

Strengths: Easy of installation and use; depth of base and treble; powerful volume capabilities

Weakness: No on/off switch. Also, the speakers have audio plugs for a second input device, but no switch to change devices, so if both devices were playing, they'd come out of the speakers at the same time.

These little speakers pack a lot of punch! I had the older version of these speakers from 2000-2007, and they only gave out at the very end, and even then, it was only on very loud stuff. The new speakers are improved in a couple ways, however. They don't have a cloth mesh over the front of the speakers, and the don't have a separate (visible) sound chamber for bass production, so they won't collect dust and hair the way the old model did.

In terms of use: they have a headphone port, and if you can adjust volume, then you should be able to use these speakers.

The new speakers are small, of sleek design, and are two shades of gray (tin and charcoal, respectively). There is also no on/off light, so when you turn out the lights to watch a movie or play a game on your computer, it will be a total immersion experience.

Having used a similar model for seven years, I wholeheartedly recommend these speakers!

Companion 2 Multimedia Speaker System

Strengths: Clarity of Sound. Excellent highs, clear midranges and lows!

Weakness: Lack of an on/off switch.

These are excellent multimedia computer speakers. I've never owned a Bose product before, but after experiencing these for the last week, I know I'll be a future customer. They have excellent base response without being too bassy. A subwoofer is definitely not required. Midranges and highs are clear with distinct clarity. You're really getting a 2.1 system in the disguise of a 2.0. It seems like there's a sub hidden somewhere under my desk. These are very light, compact, and don't take up too much space. Connection is very easy. Just wish they had an on/off switch.

Whether your musical taste is hard rock, country or classical, you'll be more than satisfied with the excellent sound emanating from the Bose Companion 2.

Great Little Speakers.

Strengths: Good build Quality and Sleek Design- these are heavy and well-finished. Excellent Sound for their Size.

Weakness: A little expensive, perhaps.

I listen to music with these connected to my Mac (I don't use them for gaming at all). I'm not an audiphile by any means, but I think these speakers have fantastic sound for their small size. They had the best sound of all speakers in the same size-range that I've heard. These are a great upgrade for your desktop but they're probably not for you if you're a hardcore audio person.

Great little speakers

Strengths: Easy to set up Good quality sound for size and price

Weakness: Not sure If I personally see any huge weaknesses, I'm a basic PC speaker beginner and by no means an expert in PC speakers. I've personally enjoyed these speakers the last three days.

I was seeking some speakers with quality, fairly low price, something not bulky, the Companion 2 fit that mode very well for me. Great purchase, simple to install for us basic beginners in PC speakers. It is my first Bose product and not disappointed. I would recommend

Companion 2 Multimedia Speaker System-Graphite

Strengths: Pure sound. Clear very good .

Weakness: Bass will not shake your room.

I got an iMac, so I got these Bose speakers. What a delight. We don't have a TV, so our entertainment is DVDs on the computer. The sound is like we are in a movie theater. The base is not earth shaking, but very clear. Get this for very good sound. Not too much space for use on the computer desk. Fine for small places. Get it! You will like it.

Surprising

Strengths: Full, rich sound

Weakness: No treble controls

I bought these speakers for my MacBook Pro, to replace the old Harman Kardon pair. At first, I had problems with high spectrum - I thought it was not clear enough. Bass was very full and balanced from the beginning. After fiddling with my EQ, I've made a combination that serves well these speakers. I've also realized I needed some time to adjust to the new sound - my old speakers had separate bass/treble controls. I tested them with classical music, with jazz and some hip hop, and it all sounds good. Surprising sound for such small speakers. Recommended.

Excellent speakers!

Strengths: Sound, design, color, price.

Weakness: None!

High quality sound for not much money... and very easy to connect to computer! There weren't any color choices, but the default graphite color is nice. There are ports to connect headphones to, or you can connect the headphones to your computer or monitor.

Great Overall Computer Speakers

Strengths: Big sound, plenty of bass, small footprint, and great styling - all for a reasonable price at under $100.

Weakness: No mute or on/off switch.

I was very wary of buying these for fear that the sound quality and power just wouldn't be there in this lowest-end Bose 2.0 set. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a rich, clear sound with lots of volume and bass to back it up (surprising given the lack of a sub). The styling is great - just what you would expect from Bose. Magnetic shielding prevents that annoying buzz. Little rubber feet prevent rattling and keep speakers well in place. Volume knob is handy - as is the headphone jack.

I can see why others complain about the lack of a power switch as it can be annoying to have all those computer noises blasting through your speakers when you're not listening to music.

Overall, I love the speakers and think they were well worth the price. This is quite a step up from the factory speakers that came with my computer.

I would definitely buy them again.

Bose Companion 2 Series II (graphite)

THE GOOD: Headphone jack and volume control on front of right speaker; dual stereo inputs; respectable bass for a 2.0 desktop speaker; attractive design; most affordable Bose PC speakers. THE BAD: Sound isnt as good as other computer speakers in this price class. THE BOTTOM LINE: Boses entry-level Companion 2 Series II speakers offer good bass and dual inputs--but theyre not the best-sounding PC...
